Founded
in 1885, the University of Arizona boasts a
total enrollment of around 35,000 students,
and is one of only 62 research universities
in the United States and Canada elected to the
Association of American Universities. In addition,
the National Science
Foundation ranks UA 15th among public universities
and 22nd among all universities for total research
and development spending.
The College of Engineering and Mines was part
of UA from its inception, and now supports eight
departments, including the Department of Systems
and Industrial Engineering. The SIE Department
was established in 1961, and has achieved international
prestige for it's contribution to the interdisciplinary
design and operations of
complex systems of people, information, and
machines.
