Arijit was originally admitted to the Physics Department, Spring 1999 and then transferred to the BAE Program that summer. Arijit was impressed with the BAE program in the fact that he could combine two fields that he would not otherwise be able to study together. With advancements in computers, the contribution of human intelligence in Robotics will multiphy and the application of AI (Artificial Intelligence) will play a major role. Advances in AI will make robots more intelligent and capable of using human logic. This field fascinates Arijit so much that he wishes to continue doing this type of research after he graduates. He believes that the study of AI encompasses knowledge of both hardware and software including structural integrity, computer architecture and psychological aspects of the human brain. Arijit is currently looking at job opportunities and graduate schools.

TONY TORREZ

Tony was originally admitted as a non-major student Summer of 1997, Spring 2000 he transferred to the Math Department and then transferred to the BA in Engineering Program Spring of 2002. Tony is currently working for Zonge Engineering, which is an geophysical engineering company. Working with this company made him realize that he could combine both computer engineering with business management. Tony wishes he would have heard of this program earlier in his academic career, he would have been able to succeed much faster in his career. Tony now feels he is on the right path and hopes to graduate in 2003. Tony will be working at Zonge Engineering in Tucson, Arizona.

DENNIS WALSH

Dennis was admitted to the Program Fall of 1997. He transferred from Pima Community College directly into the BA in Engineering Program. His fascination with computers began at an early age as well as law and anything in the legal profession. With this program he has been able to combine engineering with his pre-law courses. He is achieving his goal of receiving a degree in engineering while going on to law school. Dennis plans on graduating and then attend law school with an emphasis in patent law. Currently patent and trial lawyers try cases while neither can articulate the problem and he will have the advantage of a diverse background to try these cases. What excited Claire about this program, is the ability to study two different areas within an Engineering structure. Claire intends to enter the business world and feels that her areas of interest will help achieve her goals. Since attending the career fair this semester (Fall 2000), where she spoke to numerous companies who showed interest in the BA in Engineering. Claire will be working at Raytheon, Tucson, Arizona.

Russell was originally admitted to the Mechanical Engineering Department Fall of 1998 and then he transferred to the BA in Engineering Fall of 2001. Throughout his life, Russell has enjoyed investigating machines and how they work. He has enjoyed working on cars, motorcycles, and anything else that is mechanical or electronic. By studying mechanical engineering and marketing, he will learn the necessary skills to market products and educate the consumer about a technical product. Russell believes that incorporating a mechanical engineering and marketing degree would allow him more employment opportunitites rather than a strictly engineering degree. Russell will be working in Portland, Oregon at USG (United States Gypsum).

Julian was originally admitted as a non-major student Fall of 1998 and then transferred to the BA in Engineering Program Fall of 2000. Julian is currently in the honors program and is studying Japanese as her minor. She has received three awards while at the UA: The Spirit of Discovery Award, UA Achievement Award, and the Highest Achievement Award. Julian has been employed in numerous customer service position and from these experiences, she has gained useful skills such as public relations and able to think quick at a moments notice. Her extracurricular activities include drawing and playing a good game of chess. She plans to use both her educational and work experience to achieve her goals in industry. Julian is currently taking some time off before looking to see what her furture holds.

ISMAILA WANE

Ismaila started in the ECE Department Spring of 2001, and then joined the BAE Program Fall of 2002. Ismaila has a tremendous passion for Artificial Intelligence. He strongly believes that robots will be as ubiquitous as computers in the future. His curriculum gives him the flexibility that he needs to focus on Artificial Intelligence. With a strong programming background, a good foundation in mathematics, philosophy and electronics, Ismaila is confident that this program will allow him to achieve his goals. Ismaila is scheduled to graduate May of 2003. Ismaila was accepted into the Chris and Carol McGuire Entrepreneaurship Program at the Eller College of Business and Public Administration. He and some fellow students have established their own company - Gbotics. Genernation Robotics, Incorporated, referred as Gbotics, was incorporated March 31, 2003. The initial mission of Gbotics is to supply a common humanoid platform to schools, researchers and other robotic enthusiasts. They will start test marketing by early September of this year. HIDEYOSHI DELGADO

Yoshi was originally admitted to the Civil Engineering Department Fall of 1997 and then transferred to the BA in Engineering Program Fall of 1999. Yoshi has participated in different organizations at the UA, such as the Student Enrichment Prog., National Honor Society, the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, & the Multicultural Engineering Prog. He has received numerous honors and awards, such as the Dean's List, the AG Communication Systems Scholarship, Engineering Student of the Year and as a Wassaja Scholar and a National Macy Scholar. Yoshi interned at AG Communication Systems Co. and created the website for the Automatic Message Accounting (AMA) division. In his free time he volunteers as a tutor at the Native American Resource Center.Yoshi will be working for Raytheon Missle Systems at the Airport Site in Tucson, Arizona as a Systems Engineer.

RICARDO R. GUZMAN

Ricardo started in the Civil Engineering Department Summer of 1997, transferred to Systems and Industrial Engineering Department Fall of 1999 and then transferred to the BA in Engineering Program Fall of 2001. Ricardo feels that by having a strong background in business will only improve his skills as an engineer and the BA in Engineering degree will help achieve his goals. He believes that his focus and complimentary areas give him the opportunity to bridge the gap between industrial engineering and business. He feels that this degree will give him an advantage over traditional engineers, by giving him more options in the job market and within a company. In the near future, Ricardo would like to continue his education and receive an MBA. Ricardo will be working for Raytheon Missle Systems at the Rita Road Site in Tucson, Arizona as a Manufacturing Engineer I. He will also be completing his BS in Systems Engineering in the next year.

Brian was originally admitted a non-major student in the honors program Fall of 1997 and then transferred to the BA in Engineering Program Spring of 2000. Since coming to the UA he has managed to achieve UA Dean's List recognition even as he works full-time as an assistant manager at a local clothing store. He plans to graduate in the Spring of 2002. He looks forward to finding a job with a company that is involved in the manufacturing of products where he can put to use the valuable knowledge and skills that he has acquired through education and past experience. In the near future, he hopes to be able to find an internship that will compliment his studies as well as enhance his knowledge and experience in the technical workplace. Brian is currently working for Walgreens in Flagstaff, Arizona in the processing warehouse.

GREGORY THOMAS

Greg was originally admitted to the Fine Arts Studies Fall of 1997 and then transferred to the BA in Engineering Program Spring of 1999. Greg learned of the program from a friend and when he attended the open house he knew this program was what he was looking for. He looked into what skills computer animation companies were looking for and they were people with art skills as well as strong computer backgrounds. The educational and work experience he is learning while in college will help him be competitive in both the technical and arts areas. Greg recently moved to New York City where he is doing consulting work.

BURTON DAYLEY

In the spring of 2001, Burton transferred to the BA in Engineering program from the Chemical Engineering Department. He believes in obtaining a comprehensive college education that encompasses several fields of study, and he has chosen his classes accordingly. Besides science and engineering, the BA in Engineering program has allowed him to pursue such interests as music, information systems and networking, website design, and programming. In addition to his studies, Burton has acquired a significant amount of experience. He spent two years in Venezuela, where he learned to speak Spanish. He was employed for a year and a half as an intern at Krebs Engineers in Tucson, and also worked as an intern at American Express in Phoenix. Burton is currently a network administrator in the Neurology Department at the Arizona Health Sciences Center. Furthermore, he manages an apartment complex, builds and repairs computers for a small clientele, and performs occasional programming jobs. Burton plans to graduate in December of 2001 and is currently working with Yoshi Delgado on a senior design project for Oracle Engineering in Tucson. Burton is currently working at UMC.

PETER FOSNIGHT

Peter was originally admitted to the College of Engineering and Mines as a Electrical Engineering major in Fall of 1998 and transferred into the BA in Engineering program Fall of 2000. Peter has always enjoyed seeing how he can make his day-to-day life run more efficiently, which is what led him into Industrial Engineering. He chose to combine finance with industrial engineering in order to understand what realistic goals were to set once he becomes an engineer, and to what effect engineering decisions have on a company's financial performance. Peter has been involved with sports, music, and leadership activities through his first 3 years and has managed to achieve the Dean's list recognition and retain his performance-based high scholarships from high school. Peter is working at Raytheon in Tucson, Arizona.

 

AZUL GOMEZ

Azul was admitted to the Program Fall of 1999. She transferred from Pima Community College directly into the BA in Engineering Program. She was recently selected to work as a research intern with the NASA Space Grant Undergraduate Research Internship Program for 2000-2001 academic year. In addition, Azul was awarded the Computer, Science, Engineering and Mathematics Scholarship for 2000-2001 academic year. This scholarship will continue every year as long as she keeps a 3.5 GPA or above. Azul is a Mexican-American who strongly believes in the importance of education and helping minorities. Her goals are to graduate and use her skills and experience to help other minorities achieve their goals. Azul is currently working at Rick Engineering in Tucson, Arizona.

Andrea was originally admitted as a non-major student Fall of 1998 and then transferred to the BA in Engineering Program Spring of 1999. Andrea interest in the program was sparked during her freshman year and knows that the BA in Engineering will open up opportunities that would not have been available with a traditional engineering degree. Andrea has participated in modeling and acting and feels that her experience will help her with her complimentary area in fashion design. She was hired to act in an independent film "Dystruction", which is being film here in Tucson. The film will be featured at the Sun Dance Film Festival next year (2001). Andrea is currently with a IMB talent agency in Los Angeles, California.

ELISSA REPOWITZ

Elissa was admitted to the BA in Engineering Program Fall of 1998 as a Freshman. Since she was admitted to the University she has maintained honors status and has been on the Dean's lists through the College of Engineering and Mines since her freshman year. Elissa is a member of the honors society Phi Eta Sigma and does community service at Hillel in order to maintain her out-of-state tuition waiver. She recently completed a summer internship at Berg-Saccani Entertainment in Los Angeles, where she assisted with daily tasks and got to learn first-hand about the entertainment industry. Eventually, she would like to work in the entertainment industry, engineering such theatrical aspects as lighting, sound, and other such technical effects. Elissa is currently working at Premiere Radio Networks in Sherman Oaks, California. She has received numerous awards such as the UA Freshman Woman of the Year 1998-1999, Dean's List with Distinction, Presidential Award for Excellence, Provost Scholarship, America West Scholarship. Jessie is also in the honors program and a member of the Phi ETA Sigma National Honor Society. Businesses are hiring IE's in the areas of sales and marketing, finance, information systems and personnel. Since being admitted to the program, Stelios changed his complimentary from music to psychology. He took some of the BA in Engineering seminars that related to engineers and psychology and this was the area he was most interested in. He will use his education to find a position with a company that he can combine his area of interests. He is currently working at Intuit, Inc. in Tucson, Arizona.

Andrea was originally admitted to the Molecular and Cellular Biology Department Fall of 1997 and then transferred to the BA in Engineering Program Spring of 1999. From a young age Andrea has been interested in environmental issues. She feels that environmental issues has become an inherent part of our society's value system. The BA in Engineering will allow her to combine a liberal arts education with science and engineering. She is currently working on her senior project with two other students who have the same ideas and plans regarding environmental issues. Upon graduation Andrea plans to use her knowledge of environmental science towards solving policy problems of the environment. Andrea is currently working with AmeriCorps in Portland, Oregon.

NATHANIEL MORGAN, III

Nate was originally admitted to the Nuclear Engineering Department Fall of 1988 and in 1994 he left the university for a period of four years to pursue an employment opportunity. In the Fall of 1998 he was readmitted to the UA in the Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering and the the Fall of 1999 he transferred to the BA in Engineering Program. Nate started re-evaluating his engineering choice while he was working and the idea of sitting in a cubicle for twenty years did not appeal to him. He knew that he wanted to involve both the business and technical areas, but the standard engineering progran did not allow him to follow outside interests. He feels both his focus and complimentary areas plus also being a highly motivated, hard-working and creative person will create more employment and academic opportunities. Nate is currently working at Lockheed Martin in Orlando, Florida.

CLAIRE TOMKINS

Claire was originally admitted to the Civil Engineering Department Fall of 1997 and then transferred to the BA in Engineering Program Fall of 1998. The past two years Claire has worked as a research assistant at the Udall Center for Studies in Public Policy. Her duties included working on a community outreach project and editing a weekly newsletter. Also, she holds a position as a research assistant at Hydrology and Water Resources Department, working on calibration of optimization models for streamflow prediction. Claire has participated in different organizations at the UA, such as a member of Tau Beta Pi, the National Engineering Honorary and Camp Wildcat (working with underprivileged Tucson youth). Claire also works in the community, she is co-chair of a community arts organization, which uses art as a form of building community and increasing awareness of community issues. She will use her education and work experience to obtain a position in systems engineer or as a consultant. Claire is currently a graduate student in the Department of Management Science and Engineering at Stanford University in California. Claire received four years of funding and will receive her Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Management Science and Engineering. Once she graduates, her goal is to get a position in industry and apply all of her educational and work experience.

STEVE WARGOCKI

Steve was originally admitted to the Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering Department Fall of 1997 and then transferred to the BA in Engineering Program Spring of 1999. Steve is one of our more diverse students in the program. He just recently received his pilot license and is currently working at a small airport in Tucson. In the Spring of 1999 the UA Bookstore had a website competition. Students were to submit a website and the winner would win a free laptop computer with numerous software. Steve won and the website he created is being used by the UA Bookstore. His focus and complimentary areas gave him the opportunity to bridge the gap between technology and business and will give him the advantage over traditional engineers. Upon graduation he would like to work for a major airline company. Steve interviewed with multiple airlines and was hired by American Eagle. Steve currently changed airlines and is a pilot for a regional jet for Comair - Delta connection carrier. He is based out of Cincinnati and travels as far as Toronto and Montreal, Canada and as far south as Key West.

KEVIN GOLDSTEIN

Kevin was originally admitted as a non-major student Fall of 1996 and then transferred to the BA in Engineering Program Fall of 1997. He was in the first class admitted to the BA in Engineering. Kevin is truly an exceptional young man. Not only did he attend the UA and take a full load of courses but also started his own company. Since he felt that the world was changing at a rapid pace and it was no longer possible for a person to specialize in one career. His focus and complimentary areas helped him in obtaining the type of degree he wanted to receive. With all of the pressures of being a student and his own boss, he excelled in his courses and was able to fulfill the degree requirements and graduate with a 3.032 GPA. After graduation, Kevin took three months off and enjoyed the beaches of Guaymas and relaxed. In August of 2000, Kevin accepted a position with InvestElite, as Chief Development Officer, which is located in New York City. The company creates and integrate strategy, technology, design, production and on-line marketing to build successful on-line business.

INOKA HAPUGODA

Inoka was originally admitted as a non-major student Fall of 1996 and then transferred to the BA in Engineering Program Fall of 1997. She was in the first class admitted to the BA in Engineering. Inoka fulfilled all degree requirements and graduate Magna Cum Laude with a 3.896 GPA. While at the UA Inoka has received numerous awards, such as, Dean's List with Distinction, Highest Academic Distinction. She is also a member of the following organizations, Engineering Student Council, Outreach Chair of Society for Women Engineers, Amnesty International, PHAT (People Helping Animals Today), ASLUA (Association of Sri Lankans at the UA) and Engineering Ambassador (College of Engineering and Mines). Inoka has been an exceptional student and an advocate of the program while being an ambassador for the college. She is bright, hard working, articulate, reliable and resourceful. She is currently a graduate student in the Department of Systems and Industrial Engineering at the University of Arizona and will receive a Master's of Science in Systems Engineering. Once she graduates, her goal is to get a position in industry and apply all of her educational and work experience.

JENNIFER J. MELLO

Jen was originally admitted into the Mining Engineering Department Fall of 1996 and then transferred to the BA in Engineering Program Fall of 1997. She was in the first class admitted to the BA in Engineering. Jen fulfilled all degree requirements and graduate Magna Cum Laude with a 3.880 GPA, May of 2000. In August of 2000, she fulfilled all degree requirements for a Bachelor's of Science in Systems Engineering and graduate Magna Cum Laude with honors in Systems. Jen is very bright and highly self motivated and a natural team leader. While at the UA she participated in SOPHOS - Sophomore Honorary, WISE - Women in Science and Engineering, NASA Space Grant Activities Committee, INCOSE - International Council on Systems Engineering, SWE - Society of Women Engineers. She was awarded numerous awards, such as Regents Scholar, Raytheon Missile Systems Tucson Management Scholar, INCOSE Scholar, Dean's List with honors. While attending UA, Jen worked at NASA Space Grant Research (1997-1998) and then at Rincon Research Corporation (1998 - 2000). Working at these two businesses allowed Jen the opportunity to use what she had learned in class and apply it at work. During her senior year she had the opportunity to study at the University of Puerto Rico at Bayamon. By going to Puerto Rico Jen was able to practice her spanish and be more fluent. Before leaving for Puerto Rico, Jen was offered a position with Motorola in Phoenix, which she accepted. Upon her return from Puerto Rico she started her new position.

 

ALBERT YEE

Albert was originally admitted to the Aerospace & Mechanical Engineering Department Fall of 1996 and then transferred to the BA in Engineering Program Fall of 1997. He was in the first class admitted to the BA in Engineering. Albert fulfilled all degree requirements and graduate Magna Cum Laude with a 3.733 GPA. While at the UA he received numerous awards: the UA Board of Regents Scholarship, UA Provost Scholarship, Outstanding Academic Achievement, Dean's List with Distinction, Highest Academic Distinction. Also, he received an internship with the NASA Space Grant (1997-1998) and summer internships with Raytheon. Since a young man, Albert has known that he wanted to design aircrafts and space vehicles. During his senior year he worked on a team project with students from Aerospace & Mechanical Engineering on a Hybrid Rocket, sponsored by Raytheon. This opportunity gave him the educational and work experience not being offered in the classroom. This experience was helpful in obtaining a position wiith SpectrumAstro in Gilbert, Arizona. Albert is working with a corporation that he visualized as a young man. SpectrumAstro of Mesa Arizona is a diversified, full service aerospace corporation specializing in the development of high performance, lower-cost space systems for sophisticated defense, scientific & commercial opportunities.

HEATHER REEVES BRACK

Heather was originally admitted to the Astronomy Department Fall of 1995 and then transferred to the BA in Engineering Program Fall of 1997. She was in the first class admitted to the BA in Engineering. Heather fulfilled all degree requirements and graduate Summa Cum Laude with a 3.902 GPA. Her focus and complimentary areas fit her interests perfectly. GIS consists of methods of collecting data and making measurements concerning the earth and its surface. All of the data obtained by GIS is often used to construct various forms of maps. Computers are most often used to transform the spatial data into maps, charts, etc. These are then used by engineers, surveyors, planners and many other professionals. Worked as a Systems Project Manager and Systems Analyst at Intuit in Tucson, Arizona. Heather has changed careers and is currently in the Nursing program at the UA.

JORDANA C. BEEBE

Jodi was originally admitted to the Physics Department Spring of 1996 and then transferred to the BA in Engineering Program Fall of 1997. She was in the first class admitted to the BA in Engineering. She was able to fulfill all degree requirements and graduate with a 3.325 GPA. Her objective was to unite the engineering aspects of renewable energies with the planning and development of sustainable communities. This way the energy needs of a community would be met, while keeping in mind the broader view of its environment. Jodi's complimentary area, anthropology, confers the effect of development and materials on humanity. She found that engineering and technology can be placed into the context of benefitting humans rather than hurting them. During her senior year she was awarded an internship with the Energy Manager for the City of Tucson. This opportunity gave her the educational and work experience not being offered in the classroom. This experience was helpful in obtaining a job with the Utility Consumers' Action Network (UCAN), Jodi is the Fraud Squad Coordinator. UCAN is a San Diego's consumer advocacy group which deals specifically with utility issues in terms of helping consumers mediate disputes and offering information.
